First off, I was unaware that the rules change when there's "4:16 left in the third period of a close game." Oh wait, they don't.
Secondly, it was clearly blown down for a high stick. The puck wasn't within 15 feet of the blue line. Did you even watch the game?

Anyways:
39.4 Misconduct Penalty – Misconduct penalties shall be assessed under this rule for the following infractions:
(ii) Any player who intentionally knocks or shoots the puck out of the reach of an official who is retrieving it.

Which is, you know, generally what happens after a whistle at the blue line. Double whammy when the whistle goes, you skate 10 more feet, and then launch the thing like a missile at the boards in a blatant show of disrespect for the call. When players screw up and smash their stick, it's because they screwed up. They're not protesting a call. And when they DO do it to protest a call, they pretty much always get a penalty for it.

That was a textbook misconduct. End of story.

"As stupid a call as [you've] ever seen?" Then you apparently also never saw the absolute joke of a penalty shot that WON YOU A GAME IN OVERTIME two weeks ago.

When your example is just something bad that happened to your team, you hurt your own argument. They were both bad calls. Sometimes that happens in the NHL.

As much as I hate Marchand...... .I was surprised to see him get tossed.

But the NHL needs consistency in their calls. I play in a men's league where you can't even smash your stick against the board or ice if something doesn't go your way. There has been instances of broken sticks (wood and composite) that have debris flying and severely injuring people in the face or eyes.

We usually see an unsportsmanlike for 2 mns given to players who are showing a little more attitude and frustration than they should (more of a "calm down before you really do something stupid")

But the misconduct was just dumb.

Seeing I am not a B's fan nor a Slugs fan.. The first thing I thought when I read his post was " Damn this dude is still pissed about something that happened 2 weeks ago?"

I didnt see the Marchand play, but in all honesty, he has a reputation. Guys like that dont get ever get the benefit (See: Radko "the Neanderthal" Gudas). I am sure he was chirping the ref as well. I have a guy on my beer league to we call Marchand. He is like 5'6 185 lbs and actually really skilled.. but he doesnt ever quit (both in the good and bad ways).

Regardless of whether the penalty shot was a garbage call, the cited rule falls right in line with exactly what The Rat did. I don't see any fallacy in the call they made on the ice.

Oh yes. I've seen all the (frank)ing whiners come out that last few weeks over Gudas too. Typical. If either Marchand or Gudas was on any of their teams there would be excuses abound.

One time I was so drunk on the ice that I puked on a goalie while being the 'net front' presence. Shortly after I scored a goal. No Interference was called on the play.

Reminds me of Slapshot.

Reggie Dunlop: How's it going, Nick?
Nick Brophy # 8 Hyannisport Presidents: I'm drunk.
Reggie Dunlop: Nah!
Nick Brophy # 8 Hyannisport Presidents: I'm not bullpooptin' ya. Got stinkin' poopfaced on the bus. Louise left me, and that son of a female dog over there keeps playin' me when he knows I'm poopfaced.
Reggie Dunlop: Jeez, I'm really sorry.
Nick Brophy # 8 Hyannisport Presidents: Anybody throws me against the boards, I'm gonna piss all over myself.

Last time I showed up drunk I puked shotgunning a warm bud in the locker room. Proceeded to net a Gordie Howe hatrick. I think we're on to something here...

Beer league......consume beer. I love the different variety of poopty beer I get to drink during my beer league. We take turns each week bringing in a case. We usually polish off the entire case unless someone brings something incredibly poopty. One guy who was strapped for cash brought in a case of Red Dog (around here its 9 bucks for a 24 pack), pretty sure it took us three or four games to polish off the entire thing. So gross.

so this past sunday night was our pizza night. the league buys a ton of pies and snacks for the whole league. but rather than have a slate of games like they usually do, you know that count, we had to play a (frank)ing jamboree. that counts for nothing. every one was pissed. it was a 10 minute running time period against each team and then a semi and a final. you got like 2 maybe 3 shifts a period. we drank a TON of beers though.

and the pizza was DOMINOES

Well the jamboree might have been a let down, but beer and free pizza is a win. Even if it is dominos. I would have been tanked the entire day.
